The Wabash Arts Corridor Crawl (WAC Crawl) is an annual city event that brings together over 8,000 Columbia College Chicago students, the city of Chicago, and artists from across the world. All of the galleries and performance spaces at Columbia and the South Loop open up to showcase a beautiful range of work including visual art, dance, music, media, theater, special programming and performance art.
For the third year in a row I was chosen to create all of the marketing pieces from scratch, including posters, maps, large scale signage, event flyers, bus signage, advertisements, pamphlets, and establishing the style and look of the event. Helping to showcase student work and assisting in this wonderful community event was a highlight for me every year.
Twenty page booklet created to inform Columbia College Chicago students how to create and/or get involved in a diverse range of student organizations. My goal was to produce something that reflected the diversity of the student body at Columbia, as well as inform and channel students towards like-minded friends. Helping students to find people they could relate to and confide in was paramount in establishing a safe relationship for them in a new environment.
I pitched an idea to Columbia College Chicago to reformat and rebrand the school’s In the Loop newsletter. The newsletter is sent out every week to the college’s 8,000 students and was the primary source of school information and communication to students. My role was not only to curate and create ninety percent of the original weekly content for the newsletter, but also to hire, manage, and mentor 10-15 students every year to help facilitate and generate the content as well.
In The Loop showcased student interviews, student video profiles, event spotlights, student artwork, school gallery openings, game and movie reviews, student band performances, student organization spotlights, as well as important information the school needed to relay to the student body.
The rebrand shifted the focus back onto the students and helped reiterate the schools core values of inclusivity, diversity, and equity.
Twenty-four page saddle stitched annual report. The report showcases various closeup photographs of a mural throughout the report. The booklet concludes with a reveal of the full mural on the final page. The mural by by Dutch street artist Eelco van den Berg was commissioned by Columbia College Chicago and painted on Columbia’s Dance Center building.
Columbia College Chicago’s BFA Exhibition booklet that showcased art work and biographies of graduating students being featured in the gallery. Photoshop and InDesign.
Skillshot was a show held at the Glass Curtain Gallery at Columbia College Chicago. The show featured pinball games as well as a comprehensive collection of artwork created in the design and execution of producing professional pinball games.
This program was created to look like a zine (independent small run magazine). The “zine” featured articles about the show, artworks, and artists, as well as crossword puzzles and comic strips.
Created a construction paper cut out series of illustrations to promote monthly programming of showcased films. Each design was first drawn on paper and then completed in Photoshop. The idea was to bring a fresh take to the look of each film while also retaining its established identity.
The following images are things I have drawn lately. I always start an image off with pencil followed by inking thereafter. For the color I will scan the inked image into Photoshop and spend a good amount of time cleaning and coloring to finalize the content.
Various logos for a range of clients. Most are started off with pencil sketches and finished in Illustrator.
One of the fun aspects of Columbia’s environment is it’s encouragement of the arts. With roughly 7,000+ students there are many activities or programs taking place on any given day. The images displayed here are a small sample of the hundreds of event posters I have been fortunate enough to create.
